Award given for supporting Maori after quake

A Burnside woman who's been helping tangata whenua has received a Christchurch Earthquake Award.

Marie Kipa has been honoured for her efforts in providing Maori community support and welfare.

She attended many meetings to highlight their needs.

Ms Kipa also worked with Housing New Zealand tenants who had to leave their quake-damaged properties.

She made sure tenants knew what was going on and what their options were.

They awards were handed out at Hagley Park, after the Civic Memorial Service, at midday on Wednesday.
