Wananga head takes pay cut

The principal of Te Wananga o Raukawa, an underperforming Maori tertiary institute at Otaki, has taken a pay cut.

Mereana Selby from Te Wananga o Raukawa, will now earn a maximum of $190,000 per year, instead of $200,000.

The Crown has cut its funding to the wananga because only 43% of students finish their courses.

Raukawa's founder, Professor Whatarangi Winiata, fully supports Ms Selby and says she's doing well and knows the kaupapa intimately.

He says Mereana Selby drew up the 104 targets, of which the wananga has achieved 74%.
