The Maori Wardens Association has offered its vans and walkie-talkies to iwi clearing the mess caused by a stranded ship in Bay of Plenty.
The container ship Rena has been stuck just off the coast of Tauranga for two weeks, and oil from its fuel tanks have hit the coastline.
Association president Gloria Hughes says the organisation is offering help if needed.
She says it's providing iwi, hapu and whanau with communication systems such as portable two-way radio transceivers to help with the co-ordination of volunteers on the ground.
Ms Hughes says its vans are also there to help transport volunteer clean-up teams.
She says iwi in Whakatane, Opotiki, Maketu and Tauranga have embraced the support by the organisation.
