Improved road to tourism complex urged

The Independent Maori Statutory Board wants an improvement to roading to a new Maori tourism attraction near Wellsford.

Te Ao Marama Maori village opened recently at Te Hana, with 30 staff and is aiming to eventually employ 250.

Some 4.5 million cars pass the culture, tourism and accommodation site every year.

The Independent Maori Statutory Board says it is up to Auckland Council to ensure visitors have easy access to the village and pa.

Chairperson David Taipari says if the side road leading to the complex is upgraded, it would be a significant help to the success of the complex.
