The Tauranga City Council is consulting with tangata whenua over its draft public art policy.
The council is welcoming submissions from the public on how artworks in public spaces can be used to enhance the character and identity of the city.
A public art advisory group has been proposed, which will include a tangata whenua representative.
The Tauranga Moana Tangata Whenua Collective is made up of representatives from 13 local hapu and three iwi.
Its chairperson, Puhirake Ihaka, said the council would be working with the collective to get feedback on the plan.
He said it would have the opportunity to input directly into the draft policy and make any changes with the council.
Mr Ihaka said the advisory group, which included one tangata whenua representative, would also shape the policy.
He said the Tangata Whenua Collective would be discussing all parts of the draft policy with the council over the next week or two until the public submission period is up.
Public submissions close on 27 Feb.
