Question of Maori united or scattered

An educationalist and Ngati Porou kaumatua says Maori academics have raised patai about the nature of Maori representation within parliament.

Māori leaders and academics gathered in Auckland this week at Te Pae Roa Hui, which commemorated 30 years since the inaugural Hui Taumata conference, which was described as ushering in the era of Māori development.

Sir Tamati Reedy said whether tangata whenua need to be united, or stay scattered, was an interesting area of discussion.

He said there was talk about the political forum and the notion of Maori being gathered to move the people forward, but said the big question is how that works when it is one mind as a people.

Sir Tamati said others that according to others. remaining scattered within the political arena is working fine.
