Three north Taranaki hapu plan to occupy two sites in Waitara for the unforeseeable future because they say they were ignored during the Treaty negotiations process.
While the Te Atiawa lead negotiator Peter Moeahu told Te Manu Korihi in June that the iwi should forgive the Crown and move on, three hapu - Otaraua, Manukorihi and Ngati Tawhirikura are all opposing the agreement.
The three hapu are peacefully occuping two sites on McLean Street and Cliffton Park.
The Otaraua Chairman, Rawiri Doorbar, said as far as he was concerned the settlement was invalid.
He said there is no justice in the settlement and although some people in the tribe might think they can get full justice later, he said the Crown needed to address the injustices in the settlement.
Te Atiawa's Mr Doorbar said because three hapu were basically sidelined it was not a full and final settlement and certainly not a durable one.
He said it was a convenient situation for the government as it heads into the elections.
It didn't reflect a meaningful relationship that was described in the Treaty of Waitangi, he said.
