Associate Health Minister Tariana Turia says she hopes introducing a new Maori concept to the Maori health strategy will provide further support to those in need.

Tariana Turia launched the update to He Korowai Oranga on Friday, which introduces the concept of Pae Ora.

She said it's built on the three core principles of Mauri Ora, Whanau Ora, and Wai Ora - or healthy lives, families and environments.

Mrs Turia said that included housing, living conditions, poverty issues, employment services, and overall well-being such as water supply.

She said it was about how people were working with families and acknowledging a cross-government approach was needed.
