Waikato-Tainui has gifted land to the Hamilton City Council so it can repair a popular pathway alongside the Waikato River.

The section of walkway, which is part of Te Awa Great River Ride path, has been closed for about three years after riverbank landslips.

Tainui Group Holdings has agreed to transfer a 750 square metre parcel of land to the council, which will enable it to repair and stabilise the section.

Council chief executive Barry Harris said there was a high level of public interest and benefit in repairing the path and it was grateful for the iwi making the land available to it.
