A health organisation says it will have to find ways to survive, after refusing to go along with changes to Maori health provision in the Nelson Marlborough region.
Te Hauora O Ngati Rarua in Blenheim will lose the bulk of its health board contracts when a single Maori provider is set up later this year.
Ngati Rarua doesn't want to be part of the shake-up, arguing its service would be 'dumbed down' and put at risk.
Spokesperson Dr Rod Bird says they're looking for whatever work they can get in order to survive, until they can build up a sustainable future.
He says the organisation plans to secure direct funding from the Ministry of Health, rather than rely on the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board.
Dr Bird says Te Hauora O Ngati Rarua is uncertain of its future, but is doing its best to survive.
The service provider employs up to 20 nurses, health and whanau ora workers.
