Te Puni Kokiri says the Bay of Plenty region is leading the way in Maori partnerships and decision-making.
The Ministry of Maori Development has helped form the wider Bay of Plenty Maori Economic Strategy, which was launched in Whakatane on Thursday.
He Mauri Ohoho aims to support local, iwi and national initiatives already taking place in the region, and helping new Maori businesses to grow.
Te Puni Kokiri regional spokesperson Ngawa Hall says the strategy enables Maori to make decisions.
She says Bay of Plenty was the first regional council to have dedicated Maori seats, and this strategy is another way of ensuring meaningful relationships.
Ms Hall says the framework could be translated to other regions around the motu.
