The Maori Party is preparing for Sunday's meeting in Whanganui to find a candidate to replace the retiring Te Tai Hauauru MP and party co-leader Tariana Turia.
Tariana Turia is retiring next year after holding the Te Tai Hauauru seat since 2002.
The party says it will be challenging for it to select from the six nominees who have put their names forward.
The party members hoping to represent Te Tai Hauauru are Frana Chase, Rahui Katene, James Makowharemahihi, Christopher McKenzie, Amokura Panoho and Pakake Winiata.
The Maori electorate extends from Kawhia in the north to Grenada North in the Wellington region, and includes the cities of New Plymouth, Whanganui, Palmerston North and Porirua.
The result is expected to be announced just before midday on Sunday, in Whanganui.
