Film Commission hoping for festival spinoffs

The New Zealand Film Commission is hoping a spin-off from the ImagineNATIVE festival will be collaborations between Maori and other indigenous artists.

The annual ImagineNATIVE Festival celebrates the latest works by indigenous peoples worldwide, and this year it's highlighting the work of Maori media artists.

It's held in Toronto, Canada, and there will be special events in conjunction with film screenings, including panel discussions and workshops.

Film Commission development executive Briar Grace-Smith says the festival will be a great opportunity to discuss areas of common interest with other Indigenous artists.

Some of the panels will discuss potential co-production between New Zealand, Australia and Canada, she says.
