A Te Arawa-Mataatua composer and her late husband, who have dedicated their lives to the Maori arts, are among three recipients for this year's National Waiata Maori music awards.
Ngamoni Huata and Hemi Pititi Te Okanga Kahu Tapere Huata tutored and mentored many Maori cultural groups in their time and have been honoured for their contribution to Maori performing arts.
Ngamoni Huata is also an author: her book The Rhythm and Life of Poi was the first ever book written on the subject.
The couple have been closely involved with the Waipatu Maori Cultural group, based in Hawke's Bay.
The Waiata Maori Music Awards will take place in Hastings next month.
