Chinese investment plan for Bay of Plenty land owners

6:36 am on 19 July 2013

Members of the Mataatua district in Bay of Plenty are planning a business venture that benefits land owners.

Tamati Cairns of Ngai Tuhoe is representing a group bringing foreign investment to Aotearoa.

He says he can't reveal what will be developed at this stage but it will involve land and selling products to China.

Mr Cairns says it's a long-term plan to deliver economic success to the whanau.

He says quite often economic wealth is generated around boards, but he wants the venture to deliver dividends to the home and the household.

Mr Cairns says social development of Maori is synonymous with economic development.

He says the plan is not about foreign investors buying up land.
