Education Minister releases regional education information

7:56 pm on 18 July 2013

Education Minister Hekia Parata has released a regional breakdown of how students from early childhood education to Year 13 are progressing academically.

The information profiles 16 regions, and provides data such as the number of children in education, and how well they're doing in national standards and Maori medium education.

Ms Parata was asked at a news conference if she was confident individual schools could raise achievement of Maori and Pasifika students or if the curriculum should be changed.

She responded by saying she didn't believe the curriculum needs amending.

Ms Parata said the challenge is for teachers to change the way they mentor each child and take in to account their learning needs.
