Maori economic leader hired by major ministry

A Tainui and Te Arawa man has taken a top job in one of the biggest Government departments.

Reece Moors has been appointed Te Tumu Whakarae - or chief advisor - of the Maori economic arm of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

His job will be to work on boosting the Maori economy.

Mr Moors is moving from his current senior role at Callaghan Innovation - a Crown entity created to help businesses to develop.

Mr Moors is a descendant of Ngati Mahuta - Tainui and Ngati Pikiao, Ngati Whakaue - Te Arawa.
