6:40 am on 20 June 2013

Te Hiku Iwi Development Trust says it will make sure local voices are heard when it works with the Crown to make decisions about Far North iwi.

Eleven government agencies signed the Social Accord agreement with Te Rarawa, Te Aupouri and Ngai Takoto on Wednesday.

Trust deputy chair Hugh Karena said the agreement will result in improved education, health, welfare and housing - and is an innovative approach to social development.

He said the trust will work with the Government to identify and prioritise what needs to be done.

While the trust is focussed on Maori of the Far North, Mr Karena said everyone in the community will benefit from the developments.
