Two Christchurch total immersion Maori language schools have been told neither of them has to move.
The Government on Wednesday finalised education plans for the city.
Education Minister Hekia Parata announced that seven primary and intermediate schools will close outright.
Originally, it was suggested that one of only two kura kaupapa in Christchurch should shift to attract more students. But on Wednesday they were told they can stay where they are.
The board of trustees chair of Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Whanau Tahi, Huata Martindale, says he's relieved.
However, he says the process was a waste of time because both were able to stay.
Mr Martindale says it provided an opportunity for the kura to undertake a self-assessment.
Te Kura Whakapumau i te reo Tuturu o Waitaha board chairperson Christina Rask says her school did the work, fought the fight and have accomplished what they set out to do - which was to stay put.
Both kura say the school closure and mergers plan has been a tough time for all affected schools.
