Bond between two kura 'frayed' by MoE plan

One of two Christchurch kura says its bond with another school has become stretched because of a Government plan to relocate one of them.

Christchurch City Council recently sent a letter to Education Minister Hekia Parata calling on her to slow down the process of restructuring the schools.

Two kura kaupapa, including Te Whanau Tahi, have avoided amalgamation but one faces being moved to another suburb.

The chair of Te Whanau Tahi's board of trustees, Huata Martindale, says it's been very difficult because the two schools shared a close bond.

He says Te Whanau Tahi and Te Kura Whakapumau i Te Reo Tutura o Waitaha both held hands and lodged their proposals to the Ministry of Education.

But Mr Martindale says now each school has been forced to tell the Ministry why it should not be moved.
