MP may be able to swear on Waitangi Treaty

9:20 am on 7 November 2012

A private members bill to give MPs the option of swearing allegiance to the Treaty of Waitangi could be debated in Parliament on Wednesday.

The Oaths and Declarations (Upholding the Treaty of Waitangi) Amendment Bill is in the name of Maori Party MP Te Ururoa Flavell.

He says National has stated they will oppose the bill, which he says is a disturbing move that might have been expected from former National leader Don Brash.
