A three-year impasse over how to divide Kaingaroa forest among eight central North Island Iwi could be heading to court.
Eight tribes signed a Treaty settlement in 2008 over the biggest forest in the country, which took effect in 2009.
But last year, Ngati Manawa won a bid in the High Court to go to court after the tribes missed a self-imposed deadline to share the forest, which covers 176,000 hectares.
The High Court also adjourned the issue until February this year so the tribes could resolve the matter themselves.
Now Ngati Manawa intends to advise the other seven iwi on Wednesday that it will press ahead with court proceedings unless a panel of adjudicators is chosen to determine each tribe's share
Central North Island Iwi Holdings chair Matt Te Pou said that if the meeting in Rotorua goes well, the forum could look at choosing adjudicators.
