Students enrolled in Waikato-Tainui College's Master of Business Administration course have set off for Canada where they'll be studying as well as working for Native American businesses.

The MBA programme run through the Waikato University's Management School won the international inaugural MBA Innovations Award last year.

Aimed at advancing Maori leadership in the world of business, the programme was inspired by the late Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu.

More than 25 Maori students are travelling to Canada, where they'll work for Native American businesses and study at the University of Vancouver.
