Te Papa Museum is getting ready to hand over 18 taonga to a Horowhenua iwi to go on display at the new cultural and community centre in Levin.
The museum has been working with Muaupoko since December last year to carefully select ancient tribal artefacts to help tell the tribe's history.
Te Takere will be opened on 29 September and has been a collaboration between the iwi and the Horowhenua District Council.
Te Papa senior Maori curator Rhonda Paku says there will be a ceremonial handing over of the taonga before the official opening.
She says museum staff were taking the taonga to Levin on Tuesday, accompanied by members of Muaupoko.
The taonga will visit two marae before being installed at Te Takeretanga o Kurahaupo.
Ms Paku says the taonga will be in place and ready to be displayed before the grand opening.
