Te Wananga o Aotearoa council members will advertise the position of chief executive of the tertiary institution in coming months.

According to an internal notice sent to staff, the council Te Mana Whakahaere says it is required to either advertise the position or re-appoint the chief executive for a further five year term.

The council says it has been seven years since applicants were sought to lead Te Wananga o Aotearoa and the institution now sits in a completely different place within the education sector.

It says it expects a number of applicants to come from within the institution.

Bentham Ohia was appointed as the interim chief executive of Te Wananga o Aotearoa in 2005 and was given the official position on a five year contract in 2007.

His term was going to expire in December this year but his contract has been extended to June next year.
