The leader of Auckland's largest hapu is in full support of the hui called by King Tuheitia.
Ngati Whatua o Orakei has a kinship with the Kingitanga going back to at least the 19th century.
Chairman of the sub-tribe, Grant Hawke, salutes the King for bringing tribes together over the issue of water rights.
He said it's about time the King put his foot forward in calling the hui.
Mr Hawke said King Tuheitia's mother was much different - she was a leader and the King is a follower.
He said he's not bagging the King, but he should be leading like his late mother did.
