Maori health trust plan to address damning report

8:00 am on 8 August 2012

The chairperson of a group reviewing the operations of a West Coast Maori health provider that had been on the verge of insolvency says there's now a plan to take it into the future.

The Hokitika-based Rata Te Awhina Trust, the only Maori health organisation in the rohe, is under the control of a change manager after a report it commissioned highlighted mismanagement issues and complacent leadership.

Trust deputy chairperson Francois Tumahai - who chairs the review group - says he now feels confident that there is a sound strategy in place to address the issues.

He says following a hui on Tuesday night the group has a plan that will be put out for consultation firstly with staff and management.

Mr Tumahai says external funders such as the Ministry of Health and the West Coast District Health Board will also be asked to comment on the plan.

He says patients' healthcare won't be affected and it's business as usual.
