Te Whanau o Waipareira Trust head John Tamihere says he has no problem with unregistered teachers running charter schools or kura hourua.
The Government has announced details of its rules for publicly-funded private schools, which are expected to open from 2014.
People with no teaching experience will be allowed to run charter schools, and the schools will be able to have fewer registered teachers than state schools.
Mr Tamihere says the trust is keen to run a partnership school and teacher aides can be just as effective as teachers.
He says a person does not have to spend three years at a teacher training college to be a very good school operator.
Mr Tamihere says he has seen very good lesson plans put forward by teacher aides.
But Mr Tamihere says as with any Crown funding, the devil will be in the detail.
