3:25 pm on 30 May 2012

Otago University's new director of Maori development says he expects to provide the big South Island iwi Ngai Tahu with a direct line of communication to the university.

Tuari Potiki wants to maintain and increase the current momentum surrounding Maori development and supporting Maori to achieve their ambitions.

Mr Potiki says he's looking forward to working closely again with Ngai Tahu which he says already has a strong presence at the university.

He says he expects he will be involved with the new tribal education strategy that Ngai Tahu is about to write.

Mr Potiki has been working recently with the Alcohol Advisory Council but has also worked in health, education and justice sectors as well as with the Ngai Tahu Development Corporation, and will take up his new job in Dunedin on 10 July.
