A popular Moerewa cafe is re-opening this week as a hands-on training centre for local people.
The Tuna Cafe, with its gardens, carving centre and art gallery, closed last year to the disappointment of many Northland travellers.
But it's gaining a new lease on life through Northland's polytec.
NorthTec has responded to a call for job training in Moerewa by creating a tourism hospitality skills course.
Programme leader Lisette Buckle, who's had a successful cafe and catering business, says the well-equipped Tuna Cafe is the perfect place for the course.
The hospitality course at the Tuna Cafe starts on Monday.
