Pre-school claim could set precedent - campaigner

6:03 am on 1 May 2012

A Kohanga campaigner says a Treaty of Waitangi claim calling for Maori pre-schools to become self-managed will set a precedent for a claim by kura kaupapa.

The Waitangi Tribunal is to deliberate on the movement's claim following the closing submissions by the Crown and the Kohanga Reo National Trust last week.

The Aotea District Kohanga Reo manager from Whanganui, Ruka Broughton, is confident the movement's claim will be upheld.

He says if that happens it will could lead to a claim by the kura kaupapa movement being upheld.
