A drive is underway to boost the number of well-qualified Maori in the seafood sector.

Aotearoa Fisheries and Massey University say they are searching for the right person to take up a Research Fellowship on campus.

Part of the work will involve formally documenting the Treaty settlement process and the Maori Fisheries Act.

Aotearoa Fisheries chief executive Jeremy Fleming hopes the fellowship will increase the number of Maori leadership positions in the sector.

He says the fellowship is due to run for three years.
