Speeds slow on Volvo Ocean race

12:43 pm on 2 March 2012

The pace has certainly slowed down for the Volvo Ocean race fleet with the French boat Groupama making the most of the recent strong wind conditions on the 4th leg to Auckland.

The fleet is nearing a doldrums belt near the Solomon Islands and speeds will be well below 10 knots.

Team New Zealand's boat Camper is in 5th place 132 miles behind the leader Groupama.

The boats are expected into Auckland at the end of next week.
