20 NZ athletes competing in Melbourne this weekend

Nick Willis will head a twenty-strong group of New Zealand athletes competing in the first IAAF World Challenge event for 2012, the Melbourne Track Classic this weekend.

The prestigious meet is also doubling as the Australian Olympic Trials.

Olympic Silver Medallist Willis will compete in his specialty 1500 metres at the penultimate meeting of his "mini southern season".

Also in the field is reigning Olympic champion Asbel Kiprop and Andrew Rotich, both from Kenya, in form American David Torrance, top Australians Ryan Gregson and Jeff Riseley, along with recent sub 4-minute miler and two times New Zealand 1500 metres champion, Hamish Carson.

Amoung the other New Zealanders competing are high-jumper Liz Lamb, 5000 metre runner Jake Robertson, javelin thrower Stuart Farquhar, decathlete Brent Newdick and sprinter Monique Williams.
