Jets ponder legal action over licence fee

Football Federation Australia may have another battle with an A-League club on its hands after the Newcastle Jets claimed they might have been overcharged to acquire their licence.

Hot on the heels of an attack from outspoken Gold Coast's billionaire owner Clive Palmer over FFA's running of the game, the Jets claim they're the only owners to have been charged a multi-million dollar fee" to take on a licence.

But the FFA has rejected any suggestions the Jets had been misled on licence fees.

The A-League's chief Lyall Gorman says there's an important distinction between a licence fee and an acquisition fee.

The fee, believed to be $7 million, was imposed when billionaire Nathan Tinkler took over the Jets ownership in September 2010.
