Daniel heading home with injury

Another injury setback for the Wellington Phoenix with midfielder Daniel suffering an ankle injury in their 2-nil loss to Central Coast Mariners last night.

While his team-mates remain in Australia preparing for next Saturday's clash with Sydney FC, Daniel is returning to Wellington for scans on his ankle.

Physiotherapist Wayne Roberts says the injury appears to be a high ankle sprain and if so Daniel will be sidelined for two to three weeks.

Daniel, who has been virtually injury free during his five years with the Phoenix, says the injury comes at a bad time for him as his contract is up for renewal.

Last night's loss means the Phoenix slip to 4th in the standings.
