The South African cricketers have opened their tour of New Zealand with a 20-run victory over Canterbury in a Twenty20 match at Hagley Oval.

The Proteas scored 150 for six with Richard Levi and Hashim Amla putting on 80 for the opening wicket.

In reply Canterbury made hard work of the chase before Matt Henry and Matt McEwan put on 63 for the eighth wicket to get the home side close.

Left-arm fast bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe took a hat-trick to knock the top off the Canterbury batting lineup.

South Africa now prepare for the first of three Twenty20 internationals against New Zealand in Wellington Friday night.
