Central Districts have beaten the defending champions Auckland by two wickets in the national one day final in New Plymouth.

Auckland made 282 for eight off their 50 overs on the back of a second straight century by Noel Parlane, the Aces setting Central a target of 283 for victory.

The Stags looked unlikely to reach the required run rate, which got out to around 11 an over late in the game - only for tailenders Michael Mason and Martin Kain to steer the hosts home with a partnership of 60 off 27 balls, Kain hitting a four for the winning runs off the penultimate ball of the day.

Kain ended with 23 off 15 balls and Mason 41 off 19.
