Phoenix in dreamland after fourth straight win

7:00 am on 4 February 2012

The Wellington Phoenix footballers have beaten Adelaide United 2-1 away to extend their club-record winning streak to four A-League games, including three straight road victories.

Phoenix midfielders Tim Brown and Dani Sanchez scored as the New Zealanders tightened their grip on second spot and all but killed off any hope of a late finals charge from the ninth-placed Adelaide, who now haven't won in six games.

Adelaide snatched the lead at Hindmarsh Stadium through Bruce Djite's ninth-minute goal - but they held the advantage for just four minutes.

The 8425-strong home crowd's joy was short-lived as Wellington hit back in the 13th minute through Brown, the Phoenix midfielder targetted by an accurate Paul Ifill cross and finished with his first touch.

The Wellington side went ahead in the 37th minute when Chris Greenacre found Sanchez, who slipped behind lax Adelaide defence - and that was the end of the scoring.

Defender Tony Lochhead played his 100th game for the Phoenix in the victory - the All White joins fellow founder players Tim Brown and Daniel in the Phoenix centurions club
