Watling confirmed as Black Caps keeper for Zimbabwe test

The New Zealand captain Ross Taylor's confirmed BJ Watling will keep for the side in the first cricket test against Zimbabwe in Napier.

Watling replaces Reece Young who's been dropped from the side which drew last month's two-test series against Australia.

Watling has played his six previous tests as a specialist batsmen but coach John Wright has been keen to strengthen the batting order, which will have Dan Vettori at six and Watling at seven.

While Wattling has limited first class keeping experience, Taylor says he showed enough promise in the recent warm up match against Zimbabwe in Gisborne to get the nod ahead of Kruger van Wyk was the other keeping candidate.

However Taylor says McLean Park is a challenging venue to keep at, as the bowlers usually generate plenty of swing.
