Wells could make final cut

The warmup match is over in Gisborne and the New Zealand cricket squad's moving quickly onto the main event in Napier.

And Black Caps coach John Wright is considering his selections for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe at McLean Park.

The three-day workout ended predictably in a draw with the hosts settling for a day of batting practice, posting 274 for five in their second innings.

Otago all-rounder Sam Wells booked his place in the 13-man squad with knocks of 65 and five not out,

confirming the coach's thinking about the shock selection, which Wright says is all about balance.

Wright's also not ruling out a place in the Test side for Central Districts leg-spinner Tarun Nethula if the wicket is conducive to a tweaker.

The Test starts on Thursday in Napier.
