The reigning under 23 champion Michael Vink has defended his title and won overall honours at the National Road Cycling Championships in Christchurch after crossing the line first in front of Elite men's champion James Williamson.

The 20-year-old finished with a time of 4 hours 38 minutes and 9 seconds to take line honours with Williamson 6 seconds behind.

Vink is the first rider to take out the under-23 national title and win the overall honours.

Patrick Bevin crossed the line third in the same time as Williamson to claim the silver in the under 23 road race with Jeremy Yates finishing fourth to take second in the Elite men's category.
