Players Association reject format change for NHL

The National Hockey League Players Association has rejected the League's proposed realignment plan citing concerns over travel and the playoff format.

Last month the NHL Board of Governors approved a proposed plan to implement a four-conference format beginning next season.

The players' decision means the NHL will continue with its current two-conference, six-division format next season.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly says the plan has the backing of the wider ice hockey community and it's unfortunate that the NHLPA has unreasonably refused to approve it.
