The Team New Zealand boat Camper has claimed second place honours in leg two of the Volvo Ocean race after finishing third in the sprint stage to Abu Dhabi.

Telefonica secured overall victory in Leg 2 with second place in the sprint but there was joy too for Groupama as they notched their first win of the race after edging ahead of their rivals in the dying moments of the sprint.

It was a remarkable result given that Groupama's sailors were forced to use plastic tape in emergency repairs to a crack in the hull on the eve of the 98-nautical mile one-day race.

Telefonica remain on top of the overall race leaderboard with 66 points followed by Camper on 58, with Groupama third a further 16 points back.

There are still eight in-port races and seven off-shore legs to go in the race that will not finish until July in Galway, Ireland with the next action the Abu Dhabi in-port race on January the 13th.

The third leg to Sanya in China, which starts the following day, will involve the boats following the same anti-piracy plan as in leg two, with a sprint up to Sharjah before the boats are transported by ship to an unloading point in the Indian Ocean.
