The English premier football side ,Manchester United, will be looking to extend Dimitar Berbatov's contract by a further season.

The Bulgarian striker, who became United's most expensive player when he joined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2008 for just over 60 million dollars, had been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen or Fulham.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says the club will be exercising the option to renew Berbatov's contract.

Berbatov, the joint-top scorer in the Premier League last season, has struggled to find a place in the United starting line-up with just two league starts this season.

But he has netted four times in his last two appearances, including a hat-trick in United's 5-0 win over Wigan Athletic earlier in the week.
