Wellington to have regional swimming hub

9:48 am on 19 December 2011

Swimming New Zealand is to establish its first regional hub in Wellington.

The Swimming New Zealand Regional High Performance Unit will be launched next month, and will complement the National High Performance Centre at the Millennium Institute on the North Shore.

Swimming New Zealand High Performance Governance Committee Chair Mark Berge says the concept of regional centres of excellence has always been part of the strategic plan, and was recommended in both the Sweetenham and Ineson reviews of the sport.

The regional unit is a partnership with the Capital Swimming Club, Swimming Wellington, the Wellington City Council and Wellington High Performance Aquatics.

The day to day administration will be managed by Swimming New Zealand and outcomes reported to the London Olympic Campaign Director, Rushdee Warley.
