The Canterbury Tactix have been given approval to contract a second ineligible player for next year's trans Tasman nebtall competition.

The Tactix have already contracted England international Jo Harten, who'll make her ANZ Championship debut next year.

In normal circumstances, Harten's signing would have filled the team's quota of international players, but the competition general manager Anthony Everard says in the wake of the earthquakes in the region over the past year, the franchise has found it difficult to attract players to the area.

He says they're satisfied Tactix have explored all their options in trying to contract players and therefore they've been given approval to recruit a second ineligibile player.

An ineligible player is one who doesn't qualify to play for the Silver Ferns.
