Contepomi still in doubt

Inspirational Argentinian captain Felipe Contepomi is in a race against time to be fit for his side's key Rugby World Cup pool B match against Scotland in Wellington.

The first five hasn't touched a ball in 11 days since going off with a rib injury in the Pumas' 13-9 defeat to England in their opening match, in which his side sorely missed his goalkicking.

While he didn't engage in any contact training with his teammates yesterday, he did practise his kicking.

Contepomi, who has played just 25 minutes so far in this tournament, says he's pleased with his progress, however the big test will be at the training session tomorrow, during which he will wear special protection that is manufactured in New Zealand and used frequently by the All Blacks.

The match will likely decide the runner up in the group and a place in the quarter-finals.
