The NRL's chief executive David Gallop was forced to issue an apology after using a terrorist analogy to describe Melbourne league fans who booed him last weekend.
After a difficult few weeks, the normally ice cool league boss appeared to lose his composure when responding to questions over his treatment in Melbourne last Sunday where he presented the Melbourne Storm with their trophy for winning the minor premiership.
Gallop was drowned out by boos from the Storm fans who showed their disgust for the club's being stripped of two premierships for salary cap breaches.
The NRL went on the defensive last night after Gallop's comments the previous night on a Queensland Radio station, and the chief executive apologised for his terminology on radio stations in Melbourne and Sydney on Tuesday.
