The Silver Ferns captain Casey Williams was left to rue her side's inability to hold onto a healthy lead after the New Zealanders were unable to wrest the netball world championship crown off Australia in the final in Singapore last night.
In another chapter between the game's greatest rivals, the match went into over-time with the Diamonds winning 58-57 in an absolute thriller.
Shooter Maria Tutaia had the chance to claim victory for the Silver Ferns but missed her goal and the Diamonds Caitlin Bassett made no such mistake down the other end to seal victory for the Australians.
Williams concedes Australia deserved the win after fighting back from seven points down to send the final into extra time.
